FOOD AND RESTAURANTS

Muki Berger at Gay AroisRestaurant Review: BISTRO GAY-AROIS

Located in Manhattan, New York, Bistro Gay-Arois is a total recreation of the Parisian dining experience: the rich sauces, the bad body odor, the Anti-Semitism, and much, much more. Gay-Arios specializes in Jewish-influenced regional French cooking.  Waiters are prompt, but are generous with the guilt as well.  "I have an arthritic knee -- but I'll get you more ice water if you really need it zat badly."  "I made a recommendation, but if you don't care about my feelings, go ahead and order ze duck."

Veal was prepared in the classic French style, with a rich sauce that included demi-glace, truffles, and red wine. The sauce nicely covered over the taste of the horrible piece of meat, which was similar to the vulgar chunk of fat-riddled carcass you get in your average restaurant in France. Salads were clean and classy, including a classic salad nisciose flavored with hints of parmesan and the odor of the chef's armpits.

Tres Parisianne! Ambiance is incredible here, with all the latest anti-Israel propaganda displayed in framed newspapers. Leaflets filled with Jewish conspiracies from various radical groups were used as the cones for freshly cut and expertly fried pomme frites.

Fish was very fresh and light, served Italian style. Avoid the Pullet Aux Champignon if you are allergic to asbestos, which seems to be the primary ingredient in the sauce.

The bistro's wine list was amazing- I was nearly beaten within inches of my life when I asked for Mogen David instead of the Chateau D'arbless. The menu changes with the seasons, which is annoying since New York only has two seasons, construction and winter. Degustation dinners are available, allowing diners to sample a wide range of dishes from Chef Hav Anoshortu. The standard degustation is available for $75, a real steal, as is the guilt-free degustation for $118, and the "favorite son-in-law" degustastion for $143.

Home-made desserts are rich beyond comprehension, with Pastry Chef Julian Vishnik creating elegant French pastries that are capable of delivering 3,560 calories and 102 grams of saturated fat in a single dish. Outstanding are the Chocolate Mechayiah and the Nuantel-avec-deproix-absolumont.

Overall rating: 7 out of 12 tribes. Costly, but elegant.

Drop Trau RestaurantRestaurant Review: DROP TRAU

Last week, our own Rabbi Mitz Ibbles gave a glowing review of our city's new Kosher Thai restaurant, "Drop Trau." He called it authentic, fresh, and affordable.  Here were some of the community's comments we heard in shul this past week!

* People said the Tom Yom Kung (Hot and Sour soup) was "Too hot. And too sour." Others said it had "too Much Flavor!" and "What's with all the fresh herbs?"

* What about their homemade noodles? "Too long. And too many different kinds."

* Chef's specials? "Too Asian." "They call them dumplings, but they don't look anything like kenaydlach."

* One big macher was heard to say "it's not anything like the Chinese food we were expecting."

* Senior Citizens added "Wontons, Shmontons!!! Those were kreplach!" and "Lemongrass Chicken? FEH!" "

From the complaints, it is clear that nobody knows a damn thing about Thai food, and once the place closes, you can all go back to complaining about the greasy chicken and broken seats at Larry's Kosher Korner.

Drop Trau Kosher Thai is located at 12105 N. Amalgam Blvd.

IF CHURCHILL WERE JEWISH...
What Winston Churchill actually said: "Many forms of government have been tried, and will be tried in this world of sin and woe.  No one pretends that democracy is perfect or all-wise.  Indeed, it has been said that democracy is the worst form of Government - except for all the other forms that have been tried from time to time."

If Churchill were Jewish, he would've said: "Many kinds of chicken have been fried, and will be fried in this world of nuggets and schnitzel. Nobody pretends that Murray's Kosher Chicken is perfect or nutritious. Indeed, it has been said that Murray's chicken is the worst form of Kosher Chicken - except for all the other kosher restaurants that we have tried from time to time."
