MOVIE REVIEWS

The Omen (Rated NK)
Review by Yeshiva Bocher Yitzie Pupkovitz
Everyone dies in the end of the movie, it’s awesome. Please don’t tell my Rosh Yeshiva I say this or he’ll make me sit in his mussar shiur every day. Anyway, there’s this kid, because he has a weird tattoo, wants to destroy the world. First he tries to kill his mother, but if my mom was that bad an actress, I might do the same.

The kid’s father eventually realizes he needs to kill him because he’s so evil, but the father’s head gets blown apart and blood is everywhere, man! It was soooo cool! It was like putting an M80 in a watermelon (yes, it was me last week during the shmooz).

With the father dead, the kid goes on to take over the world, but hopefully there will be a sequel with more blood and guts.

X-MEN 3 (Rated M)
Reviewed by our dear Rebbetzin
Having seen this movie after making my famous chicken soup, here are my thoughts on the characters:

Storm – a Shayne maidel, but those eyes, oy, someone should get her contacts.

Cyclops – one eye? The torah talks about bein einecha, oy, where does he put on tefillin?

Wolverine – perfect! Such a frum yid, one set of his razor sharp claws are clearly for milchegs, and one for fleishigs.

Mystique – one, needs to learn about tznius, and two, needs a tube of Clearasil. That blue pimply skin isn’t going away on its own (and stop eating chocolate).

The message of the movie seems to be that loving your fellow Jew, no matter how different he or she may be, may be very difficult unless you have mutant powers.

SUPERMAN RETURNS (Rated BG)
Review by the Masgiach Ruchani of Yeshiva Ohavei Mesorah, Rabbi Dov Rhubarbi
“Superman Returns is a movie filled with great Midos and Musar. Clearly, the whole movie is a metaphor for the struggle of the Yetzer Tov, as represented by Superman, with the Yetzer Rah, as represented by Lex Luthor, for the Neshumuh - symbolized by Lois Lane.

In this film, Superman, or Kal-el as his name is called, has been absent from the world for some time. This reflects how many times, the strength of the Yetzer HaTov leaves us, giving us little ability to hear the voice of Hashem. In his absence, the power of Lex Luthor has risen to new heights.

Luthor steals technology from Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, solitude being the Kabalistic equivlent of yichidus with your Rosh Yeshiva.  Excellent movie, but wait until it comes out on DVD.
